About this text
Wang Wei — poet, painter, Buddhist — paints an evening in the hills after rain. Read the two middle couplets like a moving camera: first the still image (moon through pines, water over stone), then sound and motion (washerwomen in the bamboo, a boat parting the lotuses). The last line answers a line from the Chuci that told the prince to leave the mountains; Wang Wei says: stay.
